Shiva As Mahadewa (The Supreme God)
11th-12th c. Found in East Java

Museum Ref: 57

This figure of Shiva is also believed to be the funerary statue of King Erlangga, who was a great king of East Java around the year 1000 AD. Chinese influence is visible in the decoration. The sacred thread or caste cord (upavita) is in the shape of a snake and the statue's headdress is adorned with a half-moon and skull; both are symbols of shiva. This statue is extremely well-preserved.
