Quadrangular axes, also known as adze, were largely found in western Indonesia, particularly in West Java. Made of semi-precious stone, the surface of this particular axe was polished until soft circles appeared, and it would have been tied to the handle with rattan string. It can be concluded the axe's attractive appearance, the way it was perfectly made and the materials it was made out of, that this particular example was most likely an amulet, a burial item or barter object as opposed to an everyday object.
