Welcome to the Museum Nasional
website
The Museum Nasional website comes into existence as the result of
cooperation with RajaCraft.com (www.rajacraft.com),
an online marketplace for Indonesian arts, crafts and antiques and
the business unit of www.indo.com.
|
This website will help you discover
more about the collections of the Museum Nasional, and will help
you plan your visit to the Museum.
Opened to the public in 1778, the
Museum Nasional is a non-profit organization managed by the Indonesian
Government under the Directorate General of History and Archaeology,
the Ministry of Education and Culture.
The Museum Nasional's mission is
to encourage visitors to witness aspects of Indonesia's cultural
heritage and to serve as a centre for research and study.
|
|
The museum displays pre-historical
and historical aspects of Indonesian culture through its extensive
collections of artefacts and relics that date as far back as the
Stone Age. The museum has one of the most complete collections of
Chinese ceramics dating back to the Han, Tang and Ming Dynasties,
as well as bronze and gold collections from the Indonesian classical
period.
With the Museum Nasional's website,
both the museum and RajaCraft.com hope to establish a better presence
in the global community. For the visitor, the website will enable
quick and easy access to the multifarious treasures of the Museum
Nasional and Indonesian culture.
Sincerely,
Dr. Endang Sri Hardiati
Director of the Museum Nasional
